Students at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania were asked: "What do you know about Valentine's Day history?" This is what they had to say:

"...a Fascist ploy by the Valentine card and candy industry to bring man down."

"St. Valentine was a gigolo who had too many women in his harem. They became jealous and had him drawn and quartered. Now you must buy gifts to prove your fidelity."

"St. Valentine was sent to prison. He wrote his lover a letter and was killed delivering it."

"A saint was in prison for something. He wrote letters on leaves and sent them to friends."

"A guy was in jail and a bird gave him a message on a leaf that was in the shape of a heart."

"It goes back to ancient times and has something to do with religion."

"St. Valentino...something with Greek mythology."

"St. Valentine was an evil man. Now men have to spend a lot of money for all the bad deeds Valentine did through the years."

"It celebrates Cupid in Greek mythology. He spread love by using arrows."

"On February 14th, Cupid finally hit someone in the heart."

"Some stupid angels shot arrows through hearts for no reason."

"St. Valentine...Cupid...arrows."
