LOST IN TRANSLATION IN RUSSIAThe Soviet Weekly announced:
"There will be a Moscow exhibition of Arts by 150,000 Soviet Republic painters and sculptors. These were executed over the past two years." A Moscow hotel lobby advises: "You are welcome to visit the cemetery where famous Russian and Soviet composers, artists and writers are buried daily except Thursday." Another Moscow hotel room wants you to take it all in. Their sign reads: "If this is your first visit to the USSR, you are welcome to it." A translated sentence from a Russian chess book reads: "A lot of water has been passed under the bridge since this variation has been played." A visitor's welcome magazine in a St. Petersburg hotel room (April 1994) ran an ad for an upcoming event: "'94 Baltic Beer Fest! Come sample beers from several countries. |
